Breaking the Duality with Liliya + Alex
ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN
At BISKIT we believe in creating a world where the gender of clothes are not pre-determined by the industry. We want to give the choice back to YOU to decide what you feel comfortable wearing.
In this on-going series, we will be featuring a man and woman photographed together wearing the same BISKIT pieces. Each story will bring together two cool, talented, and inspiring individuals who share a slice of what inspires them, their go-to tunes and some of their favorite places to hang out in their cities!
LILIYA + ALEX
New York
What are your names, and where are you from?
My name is Liliya Kalkamanova and I am from Russia but I am mixed heritage - I'm half Russian and half Mongolian (LEFT).
My name is Alex. I'm from Russia (RIGHT).
What do you do? What inspired you to pursue the path you are in right now?
LILIYA: I am a full-time model. I was inspired to follow my path from childhood. I can't exactly describe why I've always wanted to be a model, but here's to my childhood dreams!
ALEX: I'm a video editor / model. I was looking for the best way to express my ideas and my vision, I found that creating videos gave me the freedom that I was looking for.
How would you describe your style?
LILIYA: Comfy-casual fashion. I love looking stylish, but being comfortable and cozy is the most important!
ALEX: As far as my style goes I’d like to believe that I have an eye for fashion but at the same time comfort is the big factor for me, so I’m always in search for the balance between these two.
If you could time travel, where would you go and what is the one item from today’s world that you will take with you? Also, what would be the ‘soundtrack’ to your time travel journey?
LILIYA: I would love to travel to 200 years into the future. I'd take my phone, but somehow I don't think I'll need it if I go there! The soundtrack to my time travel journey would be Diamond Dancing (megamaor remix) by Drake & Future .
ALEX: I would definitely travel to the future because I believe that great discoveries are yet to be made. I don't think I would bring anything with me. I like to travel light. The soundtrack to my travel would be "The Essential" by Kazy Lambist because I don't think I'll ever be able to get sick of it.
How do you think the world is going to look in 50 years? Remember, it was only 50 years ago that the Internet did not exist and man first stepped on the moon.
LILIYA: The world is going to move a lot faster and it will be more grey (climate changes means we will have less greenery!). I'm sure lots of jobs we have now will become automated.
ALEX: I hope it will be the world where technologies and nature can live alongside each other.
Are you reading any books or listening to any interesting podcasts at the moment? What do you feel people need to read or hear right now?
LILIYA: I love psychology and consider myself very spiritual. Right now, I'm listening to Sadhguru's podcasts. He teaches his students to pursue a healthy lifestyle - not just physically, but emotionally/mentally. These days, we have so many temptations (like desserts!) but it's important to center yourself on the things in life that are important like family and self-growth.
ALEX: Lately I've been plunged into the Franz Kafka's world. The way he paints the picture makes time fly by and makes my every day commute feels much shorter.
What project are you currently working on? Where can people find your work or learn more about you?
LILIYA: I think the biggest project is building your life, but getting to the final destination means smaller goals we have to fulfill. Right now I'm getting ready for NYFW. You have to be in the right physically shape and mentally be ready for such a hectic week. People can find me on Instagram @liliyakalkamanova
ALEX: Currently I’ve been involved in a postproduction of a documentary. It’s a feature film that takes place in Northern Alaska. The story focuses on the daily struggles of the locals who have to take big measurements for their day to day survival. As my first experience with making documentaries I have enjoyed myself working with such a professional crew. Besides this I’ve been working to update my website where I’ll be featuring my portfolio as a video editor. For now you can find me on instagram @pohui_na_moroz
Finally, if I visited the city you live in tomorrow, what is the first place I should go to for a good cup of coffee, a wild cocktail and the best meal in town?
LILIYA: I'm based in NYC and there is no better place for foodies! I start every work day with an amazing coffee from Irving Farm in Union Square. You can definitely settle down for a wild cocktail and listen to amazing jazz music at the Rose Bar in the Gramercy Park hotel. The best meal is town is sort of a secret...but it's called Bohemian. It's a referral only restaurant hidden behind a Japanese steakhouse that also has some of the best Japanese inspired cocktails as well. Enjoy!
ALEX: New York has a lot of good places and you can basically find any cuisine you wish for but if you’re fan of ramen I would highly recommend this place in Upper Manhattan named Rock. It’s your small neighborhood bar restaurant with the best ramen in the city and if you’re looking for a great cocktail you are also in the right place. If you happen to be in Brooklyn you should pay a visit to this amazing coffee house called Devoción. Beautiful place and great coffee.
